CITY GUIDE LONDON: 10 Things to Do in London Fields

Things to Do in London Fields

We love London Fields. In fact, we love London Fields so much that we placed our headquarters here. It’s scruffy enough not to be boring, yet gentrified enough to satisfy our hipster inclinations. Here a few of our favourite things to do around London Fields.

London Fields Park

Grab a chicken shawarma wrap from the Finch Cafe on the edge of the park, and stroll over to the grassy spot that looks just right to you. You’ll often find the KOMPAS team watching the dog walkers, shooting hoops and soaking up the sunshine here on our lunch break.

E5 Bakehouse

One of the best bakeries in London, E5 Bakehouse source their ingredients from local mills and farms, and hand craft all their delicious breads, pastries and cakes in-house under the railway arches. We especially love their banana bread and hazelnut brownies.

Green Papaya

This casual bistro serves traditional Vietnamese food with a twist: it’s crossed with the culinary principles of Xi’an, a city in central China. The result is a delicious fusion of the two culinary cultures. We recommend trying the Xi’an pork bun or the Bun thit & Nem Nuong.

It’s a pub. In a park. What more could you want? Grab a pint from the crowded bar and head outside to the beer garden. The kitchen is run by The Big Belly Chefs, who serve an eclectic menu made with locally sourced ingredients – although perhaps not your traditional pub grub.

This quirky space combines a cinema, record store, bookshop and cafe, in typical Hackney fashion, all under a railway arch. Whether you’re in the mood for an arthouse film or a tapas dinner, this is the place.

This trendy boutique curates a unique selection of sustainable brands from Marimekko to Birkenstock, offering a great choice of fashionable clothes, shoes and beauty products, without compromising ethics. #BecauseThereIsNoPlanetB

Black Truffle

This independent fashion boutique stocks shoes and accessories from celebrated international designers. Go shopping, or if you’re feeling creative, sign up to one of their shoemaking classes and create your very own perfect pair.

London Fields Fitness Studio

If you feel the need to work off some of the previous day’s bingeing, this fitness studio under (you guessed it) a railway arch is just the place to do it. Their drop-in classes cost as little as £5, and they offer everything from yoga to pilates and spinning.

The Taproom

Honouring the holy trinity of beer, food and music, this bar is a testing ground for the London Fields Brewery, located just around the corner. If you’re feeling adventurous, pair one of their beers with a whiskey of your choice in a Boilermaker cocktail.

We don’t blame you if you’re not sure exactly what Burmese food entails. It turns out it’s a unique mix of Indian, Chinese and Thai influences. Lahpet serves contemporary dishes inspired by traditional Burmese culinary approaches and indigenous ingredients.

P.S. We hate to toot our own horn (not really!), but did we mention that the KOMPAS HQ is in London Fields? We’d love you to come and say hi to us on your day out in the area – you’ll find us in Work.Life at 1E Mentmore Terrace.
